JOB SUMMARY :

Assists Golf Course Superintendent and First Assistant Superintendent in maintaining Ocean/Heron Point golf courses as world-class facilities for the pleasure of members and guests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

Prepares daily assignments.

Works directly with staff to see assignments are performed to level needed.

Maintains the irrigation system in good operating condition.

Makes decisions in absence of Golf Course Superintendent and First Assistant Superintendent.

Trains employees to perform duties.

Oversees and conducts special projects as needed.

Calibrates and operates spray equipment as needed.

Oversees the safety of Golf Maintenance equipment and operations.

Prepares biweekly time cards for Personnel.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

The impact of decision-making and the potential gain or loss to the resort in performing the job responsibilities.

Failure to perform the job responsibilities to the level needed for a world-class golf course can lead to a major negative economic impact on the Resort. Increased resort revenues from repeat customers as well as additional Resort business can result from high levels of performance in the job.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with maintenance staff of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and education levels.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry as required in the job.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems involving suppliers, equipment, and supplies in a timely and effective manner. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to make quick, correct decisions in the absence of the Head Golf Course Superintendent or First Assistant Superintendent.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Must be able to operate and train others to use heavy machinery, irrigation equipment, and spray equipment. Must be able to use computers in the job.

SOCIAL SKILLS

Must be able to communicate well with others inside the company (Pro Shop, staff, other golf course employees, and management) as well.as with people outside the company (members, guests, vendors, etc.).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for carrying out plans made by the Golf Course Superintendent and First Assistant Superintendent. Sees that maintenance employees operate equipment is a safe, effective, and efficient manner

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals (fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, cleaning materials, etc.), outside weather conditions, and vibration from heavy equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock; and risk of solar radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :

Two-year degree in turf management or related area; and two or more years related golf course maintenance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Background experience as Spray/Irrigation Technician needed. Good knowledge of chemicals used for golf course maintenance.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

S.C. driver's license
